In July, the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Emergency Department opened, a 67,000 square-foot Level 1 Trauma Facility. The new two-story ED, which is more than three times larger than the original, can accommodate between 65,000 and 75,000 patients per year. The ED was designed by Hasenstab Architects and includes 60 patient spaces, including triage, exam, and treatment rooms with a single occupancy. All of the rooms have been designed with flexibility and efficiency to allow for multiple treatment scenarios and uses. The facility also includes four trauma/resuscitation areas with dedicated ambulance entry, a five bed behavioral health area with secure decontamination, and a roof-top helipad that provides direct ED access.
