Robert Wood Johnson University Hospitalin New Brunswick (N.J.) embarked on a nine phase expansion and renovation project of its emergency department, which was completed in November 2019.
This two-year transformation began in response to an increasing demand for emergency and trauma services in central New Jersey. It included a nurse-first approach to triage, integrated specialty services to reduce waiting times, a patient-centered, patient-centered design, which minimized stress, maximized durability, and controlled infection.
The 60,000 square-foot facility includes a pediatric emergency department, which was previously embedded within the facility, as well as the first multisensory treatment room for adults and children in the state, in-department imaging, to provide more rapid results, a 12-room mental health unit, and over 100 private treatment areas.
