Owner Beaumont Health was faced with an influx in patients at Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak that put strain on the space, staff and resources. They decided to redesign their emergency department. The project goal was to create more patient observation and exam rooms, and expand the facility within its existing footprint.
The interior design of HED includes 114 exam rooms, 16 trauma bays, 4 triage bays as well as 127 additional patient rooms. It also upgrades 53 medical observation beds. The renovation and expansion project completed in July 2019 significantly improves efficiency and organization, while expediting the intake, triage and treatment of incoming patients.
