St Ann’s Hospital in London opened its first phase of the new campus on July 1. It is a healthcare complex and headquarters for Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust. Blossom Court, a 46,285 square-foot mental health inpatient facility costing $26 million, houses four mental health units.
The four wards have been arranged around private courtyards. This allows for ample daylight to enter interior spaces, and gives patients a focal point while they move through the building.
Exercise equipment is available in the courtyards as well as on the terraces of the building to support physical fitness. The outdoor spaces are easily accessible, so patients can exercise at their own pace, without the need for staff assistance.
The exterior of the building is designed to be integrated with future phases including a nearby residential community. The building’s internalization of outdoor spaces creates a secure enclosure that does not require perimeter fencing.
